About Member:

Based in Alexandria, Virginia, Safer Country is a 501(c)(3) educational and advocacy nonprofit founded by retired attorney Paul Friedman on February 14, 2019, the first anniversary of the Parkland mass shooting tragedy.  Safer Country’s mission is to keep guns out of unsafe hands. 

Starting in 2021, Safer Country worked with Fairfax County to create the first-in-the-nation red flag law public awareness campaign.  That campaign features signs in every Fairfax Connector bus with information to empower people to intervene in advance of a shooting.  Written in English and Spanish, they say, “Prevent A Gun Tragedy, Speak Up!”  Similar signs are now in every DASH bus in the City of Alexandria, too.
 
In addition, among other things, Safer Country is working on projects to reduce gun fighting due to road rage, to reduce gun suicides by military veterans, and to revise the penalty for persons convicted of brandishing a gun, so that they would lose the right to have a gun for a period of time.
